Home Improvement Tips – How to repair 5 common toilet problems

Unclog with dish soap

If your toilet will not budge with a plunger, pour a cup of dish soap into the bowl, let it seat for 30 mins then pour a gallon of hot water into the toilet bowl and plunge again. If you can give this one last try before calling the plumber, why not save some $$.

Toilet Running?

If your toilet is running all the time, you likely have a bad flapper.  It’s a $10 repair in about 10 minutes, you can simply replace it yourself and save water.  You can also easily learn it through YouTube channels where there are many to check out.

Wobbly Potty

If you have a wobbly potty in your bathroom, you can stop the wiggles by tightening the bolts, adding a plastic shim or caulking at the bottom around your toilet to stabilize.

Conserve Water

If you don’t have a conservative flush toilet, here is a trick.  Place a full bottle of water into the tank, it will displace water to have less to flush.

More Force to your flush

Toilets that have been in use for some time can develop a lazy or wk flush.  It is quite common for minerals such as calcium and lime, along with debris particles such as rust to build up in the rim feed and jet holes of the toilet bowl.  You can use a hard brush and brush with some mineral removers and scrub the underside of the rim, so you get more water to flush.
